We checked every one on its own site, kept the ones that take campers, and labeled each honestly, because a few of the names readers sent are adults-only clubs and one or two are not nudist clubs at all. Two things to know before you drive out: no pets, no exceptions, and the season is short. The camp opens to the public around Memorial Day and closes in mid-September. Hookups are not spelled out on the site, so ask when you call.

Solair Recreation League

Solair calls itself an AANR-affiliated, family-oriented nudist resort, and at 360 wooded acres in the northeast corner of Connecticut it is one of New England’s larger clubs. The campground has tent platforms, RV and travel trailer sites and cabins for rent, plus a lake, a pool and activities for all ages.

First-time visitors arrive on Saturday or Sunday between 9 AM and 2 PM unless they hold an overnight reservation, and everyone signs a waiver at the gate. That is a normal screening pattern at the family clubs, not a sign of trouble.

White Thorn Lodge

A reader who camps here put it better than any brochure: as a plus-size woman, White Thorn Lodge helped her feel beautiful in her own skin. Gate hours are limited (9 to 6 most days, later on Friday and Saturday), photography is banned, and the season ends soon after Labor Day. Call before a first visit.

Sunny Rest Resort

AANR members get 20 percent off camping.

Two cautions. The resort runs background checks on guests, and it closes for the winter, reopening in May. It also carries young-adult pricing and a busy social calendar, so expect more of a party than at the quiet member-run camps. Ask whether the weekend you want is a family weekend or a themed one.

Lake Como Family Nudist Resort is one of Florida’s oldest nudist communities and, as the name says, a family club. RV sites have 30 or 50 amp electric and water with a dump station rather than sewer at the site, and the nightly rate folds the resort fee in for two adults, which is why it looks higher than the tent rate. Tent campers pay the day fee separately and can stay up to three weeks.

First-time visitors call several days ahead so the resort can run its background check, and reservations are by phone. A couple who answered our question are members here and at an Indiana club, and described the same thing everyone does: nice people and a laid-back pace.

Suwannee Valley Resort

• White Springs, Florida (near the Georgia line)
• Call for rates; a temporary membership is required to camp; 21 and over

Suwannee Valley is an adults-only (21+) clothing-optional resort and an AANR member, with the biggest RV setup on this list for the price: more than ninety pull-through sites with full hookups that take rigs up to about 70 feet, plus tents and cabins. The pool and spa are nude only.

Honest label: this is a nudist club for adults, not a family campground and not a lifestyle club, and its own rules say so. Singles make their first visit Monday through Thursday during office hours, and there is a background check at the gate.

Sunsport Gardens

• Loxahatchee, Florida (Palm Beach County)
• Call for rates; membership required to camp; open every day of the year

Sunsport Gardens describes itself as the leading family-friendly nudist resort in Florida and is an AANR club. Camping sites for RVs, trailers and tents are spread through the resort, with hookups, and it stays open 365 days a year, which makes it a snowbird favorite; reserve ahead for winter.

Clothing is not optional here. Everyone shows photo ID, nobody photographs anything, and membership is part of camping. We could not reach the resort’s own site at press time, so the details above come from its AANR listing; confirm by phone.

Gymno-Vita Park

• Pell City, Alabama (east of Birmingham)
• RV sites around $70 a night, tent sites around $40, plus a grounds fee per couple of about $50 a day for non-members; cash or check only; April to late October

Readers insisted Alabama has half a dozen nudist campgrounds. The one we could verify is Gymno-Vita Park, a hundred shaded acres that bills itself as America’s most family-friendly nude recreation destination. Every campsite has water, electric and a picnic table, and there are lodge rooms for people who want a roof.

The catch is in its own words: the clientele is strictly limited to families and couples, and there are no single prices. If you travel solo, this one is not for you. It closes from late October through March.

Blue Lake Resort

Every guest goes through a background check, the pool area is nude only, and photography is banned. The season is short, May to September, so this is a summer plan.

Whispering Oaks has been a private family-friendly nudist club on Ripple Lake since the early sixties, and it is listed with AANR. There is tent camping with power, RV hookups and a rental RV, with the lake as the centerpiece.

Cedar Trails Nudist Retreat

Star Ranch requires a background check for every guest, so call ahead before you show up; a reader’s advice was exactly that. Pets are welcome for a small fee.

Sandpipers Nudist Resort

• Edinburg, Texas (Rio Grande Valley)

Sandpipers is a family-oriented, pet-friendly AANR resort built for winter Texans: more than a hundred RV spaces on concrete, asphalt and grass, a pool and hot tubs that are clothes-free (so this is a nudist resort, not clothing-optional), and a social calendar that fills from November to the end of March. Summers are quiet and hot.

Big rigs fit here; sites take motorhomes well over 60 feet. Tents are not mentioned, so call if that is your setup.

Bluebonnet Nudist Park

The most van-life-native spot on this list is not a club at all. The Magic Circle is an informal clothing-optional area inside the La Posa South Long-Term Visitor Area, the BLM desert where thousands of RVers winter near Quartzsite. AANR describes it as about 450 acres with no dues and no membership, and the campers who gather there run potlucks, movie nights and yoga. You park your self-contained rig, and that is the campground.

Two honest notes. The BLM’s own page lists the permit fees and the rules for the whole LTVA but does not designate a nude area; the clothing-optional circle exists by custom and by the signs the campers post, so dress once you leave it. How to tell a family nudist club from a lifestyle club before you book

A nudist or naturist club is non-sexual by definition; the American Association for Nude Recreation, which has chartered clubs since the thirties, says nudity at its clubs is not sexual in nature and is about accepting yourself and respecting others.
