These crazy accommodation options allow us to find unique places to stay worldwide. You can find everything from otherworldly UFOs and entertaining Jurassic Park-themed escapes to fascinating windmills and luxurious private islands.

1. Moinho das Feteiras | The Mill, Ponta Delgada, Portugal

First, an exceptionally brilliant Airbnb in Ponta Delgada lets us spend the night in a beautiful 19th-century windmill. This vibrant lighthouse has one bedroom, one bathroom, a beautifully decorated living room, a kitchenette, and panoramic 360-degree views over the sea and surrounding fields.

This awesome off-grid tower was built in 2009 and modeled after fire lookout towers the US Forest Service used in the early 1900s. However, unlike the traditional fire lookout towers, this tower has modern amenities to make your stay slightly more luxurious. 

This includes a full kitchen, hot and cold water, a propane stove, a refrigerator, an exterior shower, and comfortable beds. The property has an outdoor pit toilet and a secluded wood-fired, spring-fed hot tub.

Sleeping four people, it’s perfect for families looking for a fun getaway in the desert. A range of activities are available at the ranch, including “cowboy for a day,” cattle drives, rodeos, and horse riding. 

Inside, the wagon is surprisingly spacious. It features a cozy king bed, two twin bunk beds, and a small seating area. You’ll also have access to a small kitchenette and a modern outhouse.

Located on a lava desert in Southern Iceland, this one-bedroom glass cottage offers a secret and secluded escape surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty.

Despite its secluded feel, you’ll only be five minutes from Hella, a small town close to most of Southern Iceland’s famous attractions. The bedroom at the cottage is made entirely of glass. You can sleep under the stars, keeping your eyes peeled for the Northern Lights.

The upper level of the underground Launch Control Center will serve as your private apartment. You’ll also be able to follow a utility tunnel down to a former missile silo 186 feet (57 meters) deep. 

The main construction/refurbishment area has been renovated into a fascinating underground home, but the site still maintains much of its history. It features a fully stocked kitchen, a bathroom, and enough sleeping space for four guests. Quite brilliantly, your stay also includes a guided tour of the missile silo.
