Should You Use Anywhere Campers for a Europe Road Trip?
If you’re looking for a one-way trip to explore the European continent, Anywhere Campers might be just the ticket.
Whether you’re dreaming of driving the windy roads of the Italian Alps or exploring the French Riviera, a campervan rental is a great way to see the European continent. And that’s exactly what I did!
We’ve spent a total of three months driving around Europe in various campervan rentals, including Anywhere Campers, a Prague-based company that specializes in one-way rentals. In September and October of 2024, we drove a brand-new Carado T447 camper between Geneva, Switzerland, Germany and Prague. The trip took us three weeks.
In this post, I’ll tell you about our experience renting from Anywhere Campers and whether you should hire this company for your European road trip.
Disclosure: Anywhere Campers gifted us three weeks for free in the Carado T447 in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are our own.
What’s Special About Anywhere Campers?
One of the standout features of Anywhere Campers is the flexible one-way rental option. Unlike most companies that require you to return the van to the original pick-up location, Anywhere Campers allows you to start and end your trip in different cities, giving you much more freedom.
For instance, you could start your journey in Paris and drop off the campervan in Barcelona after exploring France, Spain, and other countries along the way. This eliminates the need to double back, saving you time and allowing for a more flexible itinerary. When you pick up and drop off at the same location, you’re forced to only explore a small part of a country. We think a one-way rental is really the best way to see the European continent.
Other companies like Indie Campers do offer one-way rentals, but the fee can be exorbitant, and the company isn’t as well-rated as Anywhere Campers.
Our Experience Picking Up Our Anywhere Campers Rental
We chose to pick up our camper in Geneva, and the driver and I exchanged WhatsApp messages to figure out our exact meeting point, which was a parking lot a couple blocks away from the airport. The driver was punctual and friendly.
He showed us how to use the camper, we did a walk-around inspection to mark damages, and we did some paperwork. I submitted a €1,500 euro deposit via a payment link on my phone, and we were good to go.
The pickup was incredibly easy and fast.
One major positive of picking up with Anywhere Campers is the vehicle is 100% ready to be used. There is water in the tank, linens, towels, sponges, cleaning supplies, paper towels, and toilet paper. When we picked up from Roadsdurfer, the water tank was empty, and there were NO supplies. We had to purchase cleaning supplies, paper products, and immediately find somewhere to fill the fresh water tank.
Our Anywhere Camper Rig
Anywhere Campers offers only NEW Adria Matrix vehicles. Our Carado T447 camper was beautiful and well laid out. There were two front swivel seats, a dinette, a galley, separate toilet and shower areas, and a large bedroom with either two twin beds or one large bed. I loved that there was a door to separate the bedroom from the main living area, which gave the camper the feeling of two separate rooms.
Our particular model of camper also came with TWO separate bed areas. There’s a bedroom in the back and also a bed that you can pull down from the main living area. We didn’t use that upper bed, but if we were traveling with a third person or children, it would have come in handy.
Here’s more about what you’ll find in every Anywhere Campers rental:
- A fully equipped kitchen with good quality pots pans, silverware, table settings and a Moka pot for coffee
- A HUGE garage with a table and chairs, water hose, outdoor grill, power cord, and leveling ramps. The garage is big enough to hold the two mountain bikes that come with Anywhere Campres
- I think a camper with bikes is THE BEST way to see Europe, and I love that Anywhere Campers offers this with every rental.
- An awning for sunny days
- Heating and air-conditioning
- Great gas mileage
Why We Loved Living in Our Anywhere Campers Rental
Of all the campervan rentals we’ve tried in Europe, the Anywhere Campers rig has felt the most like home. Even though the rig would be considered small by U.S. standards, it was one of the larger ones we saw around Europe. Here’s what we loved about living in the Anywhere Campers rig.
Toilet and Shower Design
I really liked that the toilet was separate from the shower in the Carado T447. Many rigs have a wet bath, which means every time you shower, the entire bathroom is wet and full of water. It can take hours for the floor to dry. This wasn’t the case in the Anywhere Campers rental.
The shower was nice and hot with a good stream of water, perfect for a quick rinse after a hike or bike ride. Right across the aisle, the cassette toilet had its own room with a closing door, sink and storage area. There are vents directly above the shower and the toilet.
Emptying the toilet wasn’t too hard, either. You access the cassette via a small door on the outside of the camper, and you empty it in designated areas in campgrounds or camper parking areas. These dump facilities offer you a way to rinse the cassette, too. It’s easier than you might think!
Fuel Economy
Even though the Carado is a large camper, like a B Plus size in the United States, it got fantastic fuel economy. During our three-week trip, we only filled up the camper a few times despite driving the entire length of Germany and partway through the Czech Republic. At one point, I calculated the vehicle getting around 20mpg on the highway.
The Galley
I loved the design of this camper’s galley. It was easy to use, and the small front-loading fridge and freezer kept plenty of groceries for our trip. There was plenty of storage both over and under the stove, and a huge cabinet beneath the sink. We cooked almost every day of our trip, and it was truly a joy inside the Anywhere Campers rental.
Heating and AC
We were late enough in the season that we didn’t need the air conditioner in the Carado, but we really enjoyed the propane heat! We woke up to many chilly mornings, and the rig heated up very quickly with the simple turn of a dial. It was such a cozy living space, and we were thankful for the heater on drizzly and cold German days.
The Rig Felt Like Home
The Anywhere Campers rental felt the most like home of any campers we’ve rented in Europe. We think this is because the camper was so new and had an excellent, functional, and beautiful layout. We could have lived in the camper for many more weeks and were sad when we had to drop it off after three.
The HUGE Garage
The Carado camper had the biggest garage of any camper we’ve rented in Europe. Not only did it fit the table and chairs that Anywhere Campers provides, but it fit two mountain bikes. The garage kept the bikes clean, dry and safe, and we really thought this was a wonderful aspect of our Anywhere Campers rental.
Cons of Using Anywhere Campers for Your Road Trip
We had such a wonderful experience in our Anywhere Campers rental that it’s hard to think of any cons. But here are couple!
Expense
Renting from Anywhere Campers is more expensive than other rental companies in Europe, but you get what you pay for. The pickup and dropoff are seamless, and you get extra amenities like mountain bikes, linens and towels. Plus, the rigs are newer than most campervan rental company fleets. I have a friend who rented from a budget company who totally denied her camper on site.
Smaller Fleet
If you want to rent with Anywhere Campers, you probably won’t be able to rent last minute. This is a popular company and books out ahead of time. You’ll have to plan your European rental in advance. This isn’t a huge con, but if you’re last minute like me, you’ll have a hard time securing an Anywhere Campers rental, especially during the high season.
The Booking Process with Anywhere Campers
The booking process with Anywhere Campers is simple and personalized. Instead of an instant online quote, you fill out a form with your details (such as pick-up and drop-off cities and dates), and the company sends you a customized quote. While this may take a little longer, it ensures the price is accurate, and there are no surprise fees later on.
Their customer service is highly praised by users. Many travelers highlight how responsive the team is to inquiries and any issues that arise on the road. Whether it’s a minor issue with the campervan or help with finding a service station, Anywhere Campers makes sure you’re taken care of, which adds peace of mind on international trips.
Why Rent a Camper to Explore Europe?
Now that we’ve done several months of touring around Europe in a campervan rental, we can’t imagine going the hotel or Airbnb route anymore.
A camper rental means you sleep in the same bed every night, and you don’t have to constantly unpack and repack your bags to move hotels.
Your camper IS your hotel, and it’s movable. What can be better than that?
We also love that a camper rental allows the ultimate flexibility. If we’re digging a particular destination, we simply stay longer. If there’s too much rain or inclement weather in the forecast, we pack up and leave. Europe is very friendly to campers, and there are campgrounds EVERYWHERE. It’s easy to go to campgrounds on a whim and get a spot.
Should You Book an Anywhere Campers Rental for Your Trip?
If you’re willing to spend a bit more money for a luxurious experience, we highly recommend Anywhere Campers. Not only does this company specialize in one-way rentals, but the rigs are new, the staff is easy to communicate with, and the campers come fully equipped with everything you need for your trip. This takes the stress out of getting your camper and immediately trying to find the necessities like water and supplies.
We love that Anywhere Campers comes with linens and towels, unlike other rental companies where you have to pay more for those essentials or bring your own.
We hope you enjoy your Anywhere Campers rental as much as we did.
