When choosing an RV for your whole family, you want to ensure that you get a large enough vehicle to accommodate everyone. Otherwise, when you hit the road, you could wind up with cramped living quarters and insufficient privacy for all those involved.

So, with that in mind, we wanted to take a closer look at the best RVs that sleep 8 people or more. We’re looking at a wide array of vehicles, including trailers, so you can be sure to find one that fits all your needs.

Why You Need An RV That Sleeps 8

Even if you’re not traveling with eight people in your RV, having enough room to sleep eight can come in handy.

Typically, family members prefer to sleep solo, so having more than enough space allows kids and other guests to stretch out and be as comfortable as possible.

On the flip side, if you don’t have sufficient room for everyone, that can lead to arguments and other problems while traveling.

Since RV life can already be challenging for some people, having too few sleeping spots can only worsen the situation. If you’re traveling for days or weeks on end, tension can get pretty intense by the end of the journey.

Types Of Sleeping Areas In RVs That Sleep 8

When browsing for the best RVs that sleep 8 or more, it helps to understand the differences between types of sleeping arrangements. Here’s a quick overview of what you can expect in these rigs.

Master Bed – Usually, the master bed is queen-sized, but larger RVs can have king-sized beds. One point to consider is whether your rig has an enclosed master bedroom.

This option helps provide extra privacy, which is ideal when traveling with kids and other companions. In some cases, you can find adjustable beds, making it even easier to fall asleep.

Convertible Sofa – Almost all RVs have a two or three-seat sofa. In most RVs that sleep 8, this sofa can double as a bed. Either someone can sleep on the couch as-is, or the piece can be converted into a pull-out bed.

In the latter case, manufacturers call it a “jackknife” sofa bed. When you can pull the bed out, one or two people can sleep on it comfortably.

Loft Bed – Another term for this bed type is a cabover bed since it often sits above the driver’s cab. Usually, this section is stationary, but smaller rigs may allow you to pull it down to use it. Also, this bed is often queen-sized, so it can sleep two pretty easily.

Bunk Beds – If you need to sleep at least eight people in an RV, the best way to do it is with bunk beds. You can tell if an RV has bunks if it’s called a “bunkhouse” model.

Most bunkhouse rigs have two beds, but the size and shape can vary. Some models will have double-sized beds, which can fit two people (kids are best) each. Otherwise, it’s best to put one person per bunk. Also, consider whether the bunk has a privacy screen, which can come in handy.

Convertible Dinette – Just as a jackknife sofa can be converted into a bed, some RVs allow you to convert the dinette section into a sleeping area. Typically, this capability is on smaller rigs, but you might find it on larger RVs as well. In this case, you can lower the table and put a cushion on top for sleeping.

Top Eight RVs That Sleep Eight People

Since there are so many types of RVs, we’ve broken down this list into various sections, including class A, class C, travel trailers, and fifth-wheel trailers.

Since class B models are much smaller, they’re not built to accommodate more than four (possibly six) people. As a rule, fifth-wheel and class A RVs are the largest and most luxurious, so they’re often better at housing the most people possible.

RVs That Sleep 8: Class A – Thor Miramar 34.6

Dimensions: 36′ L, 12′ 11″ H
Black/Gray/Fresh Water: 40/40/100 gal
Sleeps: Up to 10 people
Amenities: Adjustable tilting king bed, two single bunk beds, exterior kitchen, enclosed master bedroom, drop-down overhead bunk, sofa bed, exterior TV

As we’ll see, Thor Motorcoach is an excellent brand for large RVs that can sleep many people.

The Miramar has so much sleeping space that you can accommodate up to 10 travelers if necessary. Two in the adjustable king-sized bed, two in the convertible sofa, two in the drop-down bunk, and two in the single bunk beds.

Yes, that’s only eight people, but you can squeeze an extra person in the master bedroom or drop-down bed if need be (and if they like each other that much).

The bunk beds also have a sliding door to provide sleepers with privacy. Speaking of privacy, there is only one bathroom for everyone in this RV that sleeps 8 to 10, so you’ll have to plan accordingly.

RVs That Sleep 8: Class A – Holiday Rambler Admiral 34J

Dimensions: 36 L, 12′ 4″ H
Black/Gray/Fresh Water: 37/3750 gal
Sleeps: 8-10 people
Amenities: King-sized bed, bunk beds w/barn door, exterior kitchenette and entertainment center, jackknife sofa, hide-a-loft drop down queen bed, cab end table

The Holiday Rambler Admiral is one of the largest class A rigs you can find, measuring 36 feet long and 12 feet high.

With so much space, sleeping eight people is a breeze, thanks to the king-sized bed, bunk beds, drop-down bunk, and convertible sofa. As with the Miramar, you can technically sleep ten travelers if they don’t mind squeezing together at night.

Oddly enough, the bunk beds come with a sliding barn door for privacy, but the master bedroom doesn’t enclose. So, only those sleeping in the bunks get their own privacy at night.

Otherwise, this rig has all the usual amenities you can find in a class A motorhome, including an exterior kitchen, a swivel TV, a full-size kitchenette, and a cab end table for added convenience while driving.

As with the Miramar, you only have one bathroom to share between eight people.

RVs That Sleep 8: Class C – Freedom Elite 30FE

Dimensions: 32′ 4″ L, 11′ H
Black/Gray/Fresh Water: 26/31/40 gal
Sleeps: 7-8 people
Amenities: Queen-sized bed, cabover bunk, bunk beds w/convertible dinette area, flip-up countertop, jackknife sofa, exterior TV, swivel TV in cabover portion

Although the model is the Freedom Elite, this RV that sleeps 8 is also from Thor Motorcoach. While this rig isn’t as big as the Miramar (since it’s a class C), it still comes with plenty of sleeping space.

Technically, the specs say that it can sleep seven, but if you’re traveling with kids, eight is more than possible, thanks to the convertible sofa and bunk beds.

Speaking of converting things, the bottom bunk can turn into a dining area, meaning that you can have an adult and a children’s table if necessary. Both options are ideal so that you have more counter space for activities.

RVs That Sleep 8: Class C – Thor Quantum LF31

Dimensions: 32′ 8″ L, 11′ 2″ H
Black/Gray/Fresh Water: 28/28/40 gal
Sleeps: 7-8 people
Amenities: Queen-sized bed, dual bunk beds, built-in skylight, cabover bunk, convertible jackknife sofa, exterior TV

Since this is another class C motorhome from Thor, the amenities and sleeping arrangements are pretty identical to the Freedom Elite above.

Also, technically, you can “only” sleep seven, but that’s more of a recommendation than a hard and fast rule.

These bunk beds don’t have a privacy door or screen, but the master bedroom does. The bathroom also has two entryways – one from the master bedroom and one from the main cabin.

So, there’s a chance that someone might barge in while you’re on the toilet, but that’s a small price to pay for extra convenience.

RV That Sleeps 8: Travel Trailer – Dutchmen Aspen Trail 2790BHS

The Dutchmen Aspen Trail is one of the most versatile travel trailers, available in a wide array of unique floorplans.

In this case, you get two double-sized bunks, which allows you to sleep eight people, especially if you’re traveling with children. The bunks also have a privacy screen, ensuring that everyone can sleep more comfortably at night.

The master bedroom is fully enclosed, and it even has its own entryway. So, you don’t need to disturb your fellow bunkmates at night if you need to go outside.

The bedroom also has pass-through storage windows, making it easier to bring gear in and out of your RV that sleeps 8.

Dimensions: 32′ 10″ L, 11′ 1″ H
Black/Gray/Fresh Water: 35/70/50 gal
Sleeps: 7-8 people
Amenities: Pass-through storage, enclosed master bedroom, queen-sized bed, double-sized bunks, sofa bed, exterior camp kit, dual entryways

Although Coachmen makes this travel trailer, it’s remarkably similar to the Aspen Trail above. It has an enclosed master bedroom with its own entryway, pass-through storage windows, double-sized bunk beds, and a sofa bed.

Even the dimensions of this rig are similar, although the interior design is somewhat different. If you put this trailer next to the Aspen Trail, it might be hard to tell the difference (assuming that you covered the manufacturer logo on both).

RV That Sleeps 8: Fifth Wheel – Grand Design Reflection 28BH

Amenities: Enclosed master bedroom, shower w/skylight, triple bunks, convertible sofa, U-shaped dinette, flip-up countertop, pass-through storage, entertainment center w/fireplace, exterior kitchen

When it comes to fifth-wheel trailers, Grand Design is about as luxurious as you can get. The Reflection model RV that sleeps 8 has everything you and your travel guests could need, including a shower skylight, a built-in fireplace, and an exterior kitchen/entertainment center for having fun in the great outdoors.

As far as sleeping arrangements, this rig comes with three bunks instead of two, as well as a convertible jackknife sofa. There is even a small TV in the bunkhouse section so that sleepers can stay entertained when they’re not counting sheep.

RVs That Sleep 8: Fifth Wheel – Grand Design Solitude 3740BH

Dimensions: 40′ 4″ L, 13′ 5″ H
Black/Gray/Fresh Water: 106/106/91 gal
Sleeps: 8-10 people
Amenities: Triple bunk, fold-down bunk, convertible sofa, enclosed master bedroom and bunk room, shower w/skylight, entertainment center w/fireplace, exterior kitchenette, interior kitchen island

Last but certainly not least, we have the Grand Design Solitude. At over 40 feet long, this is one of the largest and most luxurious fifth-wheel trailers on the market.

This particular model can sleep up to 10 people if you choose the second convertible sofa instead of theater-style seating. Otherwise, you can easily sleep eight or nine, thanks to the four bunks, the standard convertible sofa, and the queen-sized bed.

Another highlight of this RV is that it has two bathrooms – one for the master bedroom and one for the bunkhouse room.

This way, kids and parents can have their own spaces and privacy, making long-term travel much more enjoyable for everyone.
